SUMMARY:Cray 1-2-1 Mentoring Program
DESCRIPTION:The Mission of Cray Youth and Family Services Inc.  is to “make life better for kids”. Since 1984\, Cray has been providing services to at risk youth and families that range from preventative to intensive in nature. Cray’s mentoring program (formerly Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lawrence County) has matched nearly 700 children with a mentor since 1996. It is the only child serving program at Cray that does not receive state or federal funding\, and receives operating support from The United Way\, private foundations\, and individuals and businesses in our community. In 2018\, the mentoring program disaffiliated from Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and is now known as 1-2-1 Mentoring. Program Director\, Allisyn Wolfe\, will be speaking about the reasons for the change\, what the mentoring program accomplishes\, and how the community can get involved. SUMMARY:Outstanding Entrepreneur Dinner 2018
DESCRIPTION:New Castle Rotary will be honoring the Medure Family and Medure’s Catering at a banquet on Monday\, May 21\, 2018.  This is the 13th year that Rotary has honored an Outstanding Entrepreneur from Lawrence County.  The dinner will be held at The Villa at 6:15 PM.  The price is $35 per person or $325 for a table of ten.  Please contact Dale Perelman at 724-654-9430 or dale.perelman@gmail.com to reserve your seats.  You may also mail a check payable to New Castle Rotary Club #89 to 223 Tanglewood Drive.  \nMedure’s Catering was founded in 1979 by Matty and Darlene Medure in 1979 with the goal of serving the New Castle community.  Over the years\, Medure’s Catering has become known for offering the best food and service throughout the region.  \nMatty and Darlene have four sons\, Peter\, Matthew\, David and Jack.  All four boys ended up with careers in the Hospitality and Food Service Industry.  Matthew and David are currently living in Florida and own and operate one of the most successful Restaurant and Catering Groups in North Florida.  Peter and Jack remain involved in the local business. \nIn 2004\, Matty and Darlene Medure partnered with their son\, Peter\, with the goal of developing a plan to grow and expand the local catering business.  The first objective was to agree on a core principle\, which was a simple one; the customers will be treated like family and the team will work tirelessly to offer the best food quality for a fair price.  The second objective was to find a location which would allow for not only future expansion but would allow for in-house banquet and event operations.  As a result\, the Villa Banquet Centre was purchased\, and renovation and construction expansion began soon after.  \nThroughout the nearly four decades\, one thing has remained the same; customers and employees are treated as family and serving them both remains the central focus of the leadership team.

SUMMARY:Aaron Young - Mill Creek MetroParks
DESCRIPTION:Please welcome Aaron Young from Mill Creek MetroParks. \nAbout Mill Creek Metro Parks\nMission Statement\n\nThe mission of Mill Creek MetroParks is to provide park\, recreational\, educational\, and open space facilities of regional significance. In fulfilling this mission our objectives are:\n\n\n\n\nTo be responsive to community needs\nStudies and surveys direct the MetroParks to preserve appropriate natural and cultural areas\, make improvements to MetroPark facilities\, develop additional recreational opportunities\, and continue to strengthen activity and public information programming. \nTo be environmentally sound\nStewardship strategies will be dictated by the intrinsic nature of the land. \nTo be adaptable\nThe only certainty in our world is that change is occurring at an increasing rate. To respond\, the MetroParks must maintain strong public information and involvement programs and form new kinds of creative liaisons to meet changing needs. \nTo be economically feasible\nThe MetroParks has finite resources that are not guaranteed in perpetuity. It must constantly work to broaden its base\, especially through new partnerships. Revenue generating programs and facilities must be a key element in the overall funding picture.

SUMMARY:New Castle High School visit to STEM/STEAM
DESCRIPTION:  \nOverview \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSTEM is an acronym for science\, technology\, engineering\, and mathematics.  Add the “A” into the mix\, which represents the creative and fine arts\, and the result is STEAM.  The concept of a K-12 STEM/STEAM education is one that integrates these content areas into real-world applications and learning experiences in an effort to prepare our students to compete and be successful in today’s world. \n  \nRegionally\, nationally\, and globally the job industry is begging for employees who have experience and skills related to the science\, technology\, engineering and math (STEM) fields. According to ITT Technical Institute\, “In 2010 there were 7.6 million STEM workers in the United States\, representing 1 in 18 workers” (http://www.itt-tech.edu/). In the years since then\, that number has been steadily rising\, and as a result\, it is only a matter of time before the majority of tomorrow’s jobs are founded in STEM. In fact\, it is estimated that by the year 2018\, there will be a need for over 8.6 million workers in STEM-related jobs (http://www.stemconnector.org). \n  \nSo\, what does that mean for New Castle Area School District? It means we must prepare our students now for the jobs they will most likely hold in the not-so-distant future.
