SUMMARY:Rotary Club #89 will learn about Community Foundation
DESCRIPTION:The New Castle Rotary Club will hear about the Community Foundation from Kyle English. \nThe Community Foundation of Western PA & Eastern OH has one guiding purpose\, that is to help individuals give back to a region for which they care about deeply.  Our founding fund\, the O’Brien Children Memorial Fund\, started it all by raising $53\, 997 during a fundraiser in 1981. Since then we have helped donors grant over $50 million into the community. \nBecause nobody knows a community better than people that live and work in it on a daily basis\, our foundation created its affiliate system.  These affiliates work to help individuals set up donor advised\, field of interest\, donor designated\, and scholarship funds that will support the community now and into the future. \n \nKyle English grew up in Calgary\, Canada\, moving to the United States in 2002 and to Western Pennsylvania in 2009.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bishop’s University in Lennoxville\, Quebec\, where he majored in Political Studies and minored in Business Administration and Economics. \nAfter spending the first 13 years of his career in the financial services industry\, where he worked for companies such as John Hancock\, American Express\, and Edward Jones\, Kyle entered the non-profit sector in 2013.  While working with a local business incubator\, he focused on finding different ways to connect college and high school students to the community through activities centered around starting their own business. \nKyle partnered with the Community Foundation of Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio while launching the above activities\, and was honored to be selected as its Executive Director in November of 2015. He is also an adjunct professor in the Entrepreneurship Department at Grove City College\, where he teaches courses centered around Social Entrepreneurship. \n

SUMMARY:Cray 1-2-1 Mentoring Program
DESCRIPTION:The Mission of Cray Youth and Family Services Inc.  is to “make life better for kids”. Since 1984\, Cray has been providing services to at risk youth and families that range from preventative to intensive in nature. Cray’s mentoring program (formerly Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lawrence County) has matched nearly 700 children with a mentor since 1996. It is the only child serving program at Cray that does not receive state or federal funding\, and receives operating support from The United Way\, private foundations\, and individuals and businesses in our community. In 2018\, the mentoring program disaffiliated from Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and is now known as 1-2-1 Mentoring. Program Director\, Allisyn Wolfe\, will be speaking about the reasons for the change\, what the mentoring program accomplishes\, and how the community can get involved. She will also provide a brief overview of the other services Cray provides in Lawrence County.\nThe Cray 1-2-1 Mentoring Program is a recipient of the annual Rotary Grants and Givings Program.

SUMMARY:Outstanding Entrepreneur Dinner 2018
DESCRIPTION:New Castle Rotary will be honoring the Medure Family and Medure’s Catering at a banquet on Monday\, May 21\, 2018.  This is the 13th year that Rotary has honored an Outstanding Entrepreneur from Lawrence County.  The dinner will be held at The Villa at 6:15 PM.  The price is $35 per person or $325 for a table of ten.  Please contact Dale Perelman at 724-654-9430 or dale.perelman@gmail.com to reserve your seats.  You may also mail a check payable to New Castle Rotary Club #89 to 223 Tanglewood Drive.  \nMedure’s Catering was founded in 1979 by Matty and Darlene Medure in 1979 with the goal of serving the New Castle community.  Over the years\, Medure’s Catering has become known for offering the best food and service throughout the region.  \nMatty and Darlene have four sons\, Peter\, Matthew\, David and Jack.  All four boys ended up with careers in the Hospitality and Food Service Industry.  Matthew and David are currently living in Florida and own and operate one of the most successful Restaurant and Catering Groups in North Florida.  Peter and Jack remain involved in the local business. \nIn 2004\, Matty and Darlene Medure partnered with their son\, Peter\, with the goal of developing a plan to grow and expand the local catering business.  The first objective was to agree on a core principle\, which was a simple one; the customers will be treated like family and the team will work tirelessly to offer the best food quality for a fair price.  The second objective was to find a location which would allow for not only future expansion but would allow for in-house banquet and event operations.  As a result\, the Villa Banquet Centre was purchased\, and renovation and construction expansion began soon after.  \nThroughout the nearly four decades\, one thing has remained the same; customers and employees are treated as family and serving them both remains the central focus of the leadership team.
